We first saw this handsome 13 year old on our agency's special focus list back in October. His story has stuck with me and I have been praying for his family to find him. Thomas will turn 14 in July 2016 and at that point he will age out of the system and be unavailable for adoption. When we received the December list from our agency, I noticed he wasn't there anymore and found out that he had been returned to the Shared List, available for any agency to pull his file and advocate for him. At the time of this posting, his file was still on the shared list. Read below what a volunteer has to say about Thomas (aka Timothy and Brandon) from his first hand experience at a camp:
"Timothy is a soft-spoken, but very intelligent and inquisitive young man. We were delighted to spend the week with him and get to know his story. His parents passed away when he was about 4 or 5, but he was quickly taken in by another family. He had a happy childhood until his adoptive father passed away approximately two years ago. At that time, he was moved to an orphanage because the grandmother of the man who had adopted him was too old to care for him properly.
We are not aware of Timothy having any disabilities. He seems very bright and learned a lot of English phrases within the short time we had with him. We also played a lot of games with him like UNO, Connect Four and Blink. He had no problems picking up the rules and quickly figuring out how to beat us! He is also a very good athlete. He can swim well and throw anything you put into his hand. He was throwing perfect spirals with a football in about 5 tries. He has aspirations of becoming a professional basketball player. He certainly has the athletic capability. He beat me in a push up contest during the talent show we hold during camp, cranking out over 50 push ups in under a minute.
Timothy would be a fantastic addition to any family. As mentioned, he is intelligent and in excellent shape. He is also very polite and was genuinely thankful for the care we provided throughout the week. His story is sad, but will be markedly more tragic if he is not adopted before he ages out. He is a perfectly normal and delightful young man who will bring great joy to a "forever home." He is eager for a complete and warm family!
